Food Sensitivities Part 3 (Shopping)

The first time I went grocery shopping for allergen friendly foods I thought my go to places would be higher end supermarkets. Boy was I wrong. When I was vegan going to Whole Foods was very simple. I got prepackaged vegan meats, meals or boxed foods. I still wasn't eat enough vegetables or fruit.

My first stop was wegmans. I love wegmans. I thought wegmans would have a HUGE selection of
Food for me. At first I went to my normal spot of frozen foods. Yea I got dayia pizza but overall I realized I couldn't rely on frozen foods.

So I went to my next section of pre boxed foods. Max and cheese and rice. I got a bunch of stuff then I put 90% back. I felt depressed and alone because I was bought nobody could relate to how I was feeling.

What I got from wegmans was (snickerdoodle hummus, nutritional yeast, GF flour, rice, some pasta and sauce). I didn't get a lot. So i was confident in Whole Foods (or so I thought). I got pasta that I realized I couldn't eat (lentils). I hardly got anything from Whole Foods and spent $60. I really started to have a melt down in the car.

My final stop was my local grocery store. Once there all of these meal ideas started popping in my head. And there I got a decent amount of food. Still wouldn't be enough to last a whole month but enough for 2 weeks. I made some decent meals in those 2 weeks. I felt like I was on the right path. I was worried about protein.

I relied on vegan "meats" for protein. Now I can't as most of them contain Soy, Celery or Gluten. I got fish and turkey which are two of my favorite meats. I added more veggies and fruit into my new lifestyle. Let's say I'm no longer lacking protein. Between fish/turkey and the veggies I'm consuming about 60g of protein a day.

Last week I went grocery shopping again. This time I went to Walmart. I was nervous and curious to see if they would have anything for me. I had made a list of what I needed to replenish and what I just needed. To my surprise they had everything I needed. I didn't get a few things just because I found them cheaper at a different spot.

I got fruit, veggies, fish, personal items and some other stuff I can't remember. All of my fruits and veggies and the bag of potatoes I got are all organic. Walmart brand organic is a bit cheaper and it's still organic.  In a few weeks my next stop will be Trader Joe's. I'm excited and also a bit nervous. But I know Trader Joe's will have a great deal on organic fruits and veggies.

Tomorrow I will give you a grocery list. Maybe not a list more like staples you should have in your pantry, fridge or cabinets at all times.
