Stocking your pantry with Allergen friendly food
In today's blog I talk about some staples I keep in my pantry. These items are pretty basic but it what helps me with meals and they happen to be my favorite items. I would like to put a disclaimer I'm not a doctor.. If some of these items you can't have please stay away! When I go shopping I'm shopping for foods that don't contain any Gluten, Wheat, Soy, Dairy, Egg or Corn. Those are the main ones. It's pretty easy to stay away from the other million things I can't have. Always consult your doctor, before consuming any of these items if you feel you are unsure.
For my first item is something you'll find in most households and that is Pasta. I'm Italian pasta is a big stable in my diet. Besides who doesn't love carbs? I've tried some GF pasta in the pasta and they were made with corn. Since I no longer can consume corn I was on the hunt for pasta that tasted good and and gross. I tried this pasta by Explore Cuisine and lets say it went right into the trash. It was so gross. Black beans should be made into "burgers" not pasta. By the same brand they makem2 different lentil pastas I also can no longer so sure lentils. I thought I would never have pasta agin. I was wrong. Explore Pasta came out with a chickpea pasta that is a bit pricy $4.99 but is worth every penny and you cannot beat the taste. It doesn't taste like chickpeas and the texture is like regular pasta. Bonus it's high in protein. At Walmart I found chickpea pasta I haven't tied it yet and that was $3.99
Next on my list is Rice. I'll be honest I'm not a big Rice eater. The only time I buy and taste rice is when I buy brown rice for my dogs. Yes I cook for my dogs. Anyway.. I did buy a bag of Organic white rice. I haven't used it yet. But it is still a good staple for just in case moments.
Next Beans. I'm a huge fan of chickpeas and black beans. I keep 4 cans of each at all times. I use them for everything and everything. The best part even Organic chickpeas and black beans are cheap and you can make so many different meals. Bonus high in protein and other good for your body nutrients.
Milk. I use to use califia. I decided for me it would be cheaper if I bought boxed milk that kept a long time in the pantry and that didn't break the bank. My go to boxed milk is by the brand rice cream and it's made from rice and and it's Allergen friendly. Once open it keeps weeks in the fridge which is great because I only use it for baking.
Canned/bag potatoes. I like to buy presided canned potatoes and I add some turkey and peas. I know sounds basic but it's so filling. As for the bagged potatoes I use them for French fries or one day when I remember I'll use them in my spirilizer.
I also keep boxed soup. A lot of them are really what I can have anymore so I found one that's made from cauliflower and potatoe once you get pass the gray color it's delicious. Add some pepper, Italian garlic, Italian herb and a pinch of salt.
Boxed mac and cheese is also a staple but not a main staple. I keep a box or 2.
What I keep stocked at all times Chia and Hemp seeds. I don't use them for smoothies or overnight parfait or overnight chia seeds. I sometimes when I remember add chia to my water. And for the hemp seeds I use them to make homemade vegan Parmesan cheese. I'll post that recipe soon. I also give my dogs Chia and Hemp seeds. It's really good for them.
And finally Nutritional Yeast. I use it for everything and put it on everything and yes I do give it to my dogs.
So this is my list of Allergen friendly pantry items. I hope you enjoyed it? If you think I'm missing something please comment and let me know.
In my next blog I'll post my recipe for homemade Vegan Parmesan cheese.
