Food Sensitivities

A lot has changed since my last blog. About a month ago i took a food sensitivity test. It shows you the food your body reacts to the most ranging from Low, moderate and high. I did a lot of research to find a test that had excellent reviews and that didn't break the bank.

You could go to your doctors and tell him that you experience discomfort when you eat certain foods. Your doctor will only do an allergy test. And an allergy test will only discover if you are allergic. I know the only thing I'm allergic to is anything shellfish.

It is possible to have food sensitivities. Believe it or not food sensitivities are more common than food allergies. Growing up i never had any issues with food or anything. When i was in my early 20's i developed an intolerance to dairy. I never drank milk to begin with so that wasn't a problem to give up. Mine was Cheese. I love cheese. I love cheese on EVERYTHING! And i mean EVERYTHING!

I at that point went to Trader Joe's for the first time. I only went for cheese and that's what i got. But let me tell you it was a new experience.During that time i only went t Trader Joe's once in awhile. I found alternatives in my local grocery stores.

I'll be honest i also wasn't the best at totally giving up cheese. But i wasn't eating it as often. And then i just totally put it back into my diet.

Funny that i never had a problem with dairy until i was in my early 20's the same for shellfish. I was in my mid 20's when i found out that i couldn't eat shellfish. I had gone out to dinner and got a shrimp pasta and then shortly after BOOM! I had an allergic reaction. I thought it was maybe the seasoning they put into the pasta. So i tried it a few more times and each time i felt like my throat was closing up.

I know that our body changes every 5 years and that the things we use to eat we might develop negative reaction. I don't like shellfish anyway so that fact that i can't eat it doesn't bother me.

Fast forward to my early 30's. ( I promise i'm still in my early 30's). Anyway during a blizzard i ate a bagel and i broke out in a rash. I thought it was because it was it was a flavored bagel? As the days turned into weeks i still felt sick after i ate. I couldn't figure it out. I chalked it up to that the weather was changing and that i'm usually sick for a few weeks anyway.

One day i was sitting outside by the bonfire and it dawned on me to look of food reactions. That led to me looking at symptoms and as i was saying yes to most of them (not all) i read that the systems i was having is related to Gluten. I never thought about Gluten before.

There was this one time i went Gluten Free that was because i was on the Rocco Dispirito Cook your butt off diet. And all of the recipes are Gluten Free. I didn't stick with it that long just because i really didn't like most of the recipes.

Last fall i went Gluten Free. Okay i lied i went like 90% GF okay i liked again i went more like 50% GF. It was expensive because i was relying on prepackaged, frozen and boxed foods. As good as they are they weren't the healthiest. Towards the end of last year i started to feel off.

Watch Out For Part 2 Soon!
