Doing the Master Cleanse
Warning: Very Long.. If you like long blogs about detoxes and cleanses then proceed on.. If you don't then thank you for reading this far and i hope you find whatever brought you here.
As you can see by the title i am going to venture into the world of Master Cleanse. I've heard of it just never thought enough about it to actually do it.
I've never done a cleanse. I've done detoxes before but never a cleanse. I know what you're wondering what's the difference between a Detox and a Cleanse? Well i'm about to tell you.
A detox or detoxification: A detox is a metabolic process that converts the toxins in our bodies into waste. That waste is then eliminated...and that activity can be harsh on us...The point of a detox is to ease the release of toxins from our fat storage cells in order to enhance the body’s detoxification pathways (especially the liver). A detox program typically works to remove toxins like heavy metals, chemicals, cleaning solutions, cigarette residue, and other environmental elements from our bodies.
A Cleanse: The purpose of a cleanse is to clear out the digestive tract. According to doctors.. a cleanse is a way to support and enhance your body’s natural detoxification system. By eliminating toxic, compacted fecal matter, parasites, and fungi, we can leave our bodies sparkling clean. In order to go about a cleanse properly, it is essential to clean up your diet and lifestyle (just like in a detox), which means more rest.. some gentle and relaxing exercise.. and a healthy regimen of herbal supplements to fully remove any toxic build up in your body. You will also need to eliminate “trigger foods” that can be common causes of allergies, sensitivities and digestive issues.
With that being said I decided that i was going to do my very first Cleanse. My sister and i tried doing it a few weeks ago but only lasted a few hours because we ran out of maple syrup and we didn't feel like getting any. In those few hours we drank 2 glasses and she has to piss and for me i had the #2's for a 1 1/2 weeks..
I guess i did feel some effects from it. I did have the thoughts of not eating food and how i was going to survive not eating and having VERY limited caffeine. I also thought about what if the lemonade mixture is too spicy or how am i going to do when i drink the salt water flush. These are some of the thoughts i had.
Now i decide that it's time for me to try it again this time i won't be doing it alone. My mom and sister will be doing it with me. It's a good thing to always have somebody support you in something because if you feel like quitting then you'll have somebody to give you motivation to keep going..
Here are some reasons why i want to do the master cleanse. About 2 months ago i sprained my neck while working out. During the recovery time i haven't made the best eating choices. Not all vegan and not all gluten free. I've been drinking more soda, eating more junk food and not enough whole foods. To put it simply i was eating like fucking crap.
I started to feel bloated and extra sluggish and tired and i was relying on coffee more and more over the weeks. even my clothes were fitting a bit tighter. So now here i am getting the things i need for the cleanse. I will list below what you'll need and the price that i purchased the things at. Remember prices with vary depending on where you live.
Things needed for the cleanse
The things listed is for a 10 day cleanse..You can safely do the master cleanse up to 40 days.If you choose to do a 40 day cleanse then you'll need to stock up on the list.
By The Way: ALWAYS CONSULT YOU DOCTOR BEFORE DOING ANY TYPE OF CLEANSES, DETOXES OR ANY TYPE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES!
Now on to the master cleanse list.
1) Filtered Water. If you don't have a water filter at your home then you could always buy jugs at your local grocery store. I have a filtered water system at home so i didn't have to buy any water. I did look at my local grocery store and saw jugs of pure filtered water for as low as .99 If you absolutely have to then you can use tap water as your last option.
2) Grade B Organic Maple Syrup (NOT TABLE SYRUP!) Recently the grocery stores have taken Grade B maple syrup of the shelves so all you will see is Grade A.. There is stuff behind why the took Grade B off the shelves ( at least around me) You can just google why. I got my Grade A maple syrup from Trader Joe's for $7.99
3) Organic Cayenne Pepper: I got mine from acme for $3.99
4.) Organic Lemons: I got mine from acme they are a lemon Citrus flavor and they were about $4.99
5)Sea Salt: Unrefined. I actually keep forgetting to get different salt but the one i used is sea salt that was .99 cents. (Celtic salt)
Optional cleanse Ingredients
Laxative Tea
Herbal decaffeinated Tea
Here is the recipe for the master cleanse A.K.A lemonade diet. This is for a single serve. It's recommended to make it by the glass because the longer the cayenne sits in the mixture the spicier it will be. If you can handle spice then by all means let that baby sit. You could even make it over night and have it prepared for the next day.
Recipe For The Cleanse
2 Tablespoons of Organic Lemon (That's about 1/2 of a lemon. You can add a little more if you can handle the taste of lemon)
2 Tablespoons of Organic Grade B (If available) Or Grade A (Remember to stay about from table syrup like the kind you put on waffles or pancakes.)
1/8 of a teaspoon of Organic Cayenne pepper. If you can handle more spice then you can add more cayenne.
10 oz of filtered water ( 1 1/2 cup)
If you need to make more in advanced for whatever reason you can double or triple it for the day.
Recipe For The Salt Water Flush
16 oz. of flitered water
2 tablespoons of your unrefined salt.
Just know that if you're thinking that the cayenne pepper isn't important for this cleanse then you are thinking wrong. Cayenne pepper helps break down mucus to help your blood flow. Also Canned or jarred lemon juice won't work because it's loaded with sugar and we all know that sugar isn't good for us.
Now as for the laxative tea. I know someone who did the master cleanse for 10 days and didn't do the salt water flush in the morning but did the laxative at night and he still lost 10 pounds in 10 days. I read online from doing research that people will either do the salt water flush and not the laxative tea or do the laxative tea and not the salt water flush and still got great results. As for me i did do the salt water flush in the morning and it still made me go.
I had personal experience with laxative teas in the past. Last year i got my tonsils out and i needed something to help me go again and the laxative helps but it would wake up 6 in the morning running to the bathroom.. This time i won't be doing the laxative tea.
BE ADVISED: If you have a social life you go out all the time and you are never home.. Well on this cleanse you will need to be able to be by a bathroom and here is a tip.. If possible stay home.. Put on your pj's.. put on netflix and just chill..
What i read is that you would want to drink this mixture between 6-12 times a day. When you first wake up you drink the salt water flush and then you start drinking the lemonade mixture. You drink the mixture whenever you feel hungry. BUT DO NOT EXCEED 12.
I know what you are thinking where will i get my calories from? With this mixture if you drink 6 - 12 glasses a day then the calories are just shy of 1,000.. For woman she should consume about 1,600 calories a day and for a man it's around 2,500. So yes you will lose weight. Because you aren't in taking enough calories.
WOMEN: Most of the weight you will lose will be water weight. We as women tend to hold on to water.
What happens if you lose a lot of weight quickly? If you find yourself losing a lot of weight quickly but still want to do the cleanse you can add more maple syrup for some extra calories. This way you still get the benefits of the cleanse but you won't lose any extra weight. Add about 4 tablespoons of maple syrup and see how your weight goes.
If you find yourself losing more weight even after adding more syrup then it's recommended to stop the cleanse.
I hope you enjoyed today's blog and tomorrow i will talk about why you should do the master cleanse once.
Until Next Time Peace Love & Lots of Love
