So you want to make your own dog food?

I just want to start by saying Please keep rude comments to yourself. What i'm writing in this blog is my first experience in feeding my dogs a Vegan Plant-Based diet.

About a year ago i decided that i wanted to change my dogs to a vegan plant-based diet. Of course before i made this decision i researched for almost a year before that and i talked to a friend who is very knowledgeable in this area. Side Note: He is very knowledgeable in a lot of areas.

So we sat down and we discussed pros and cons of a plant-based diet. And in the end i decided that i would take the plunge. Now i decided that i would make my own dog food. It was very intimidating. I didn't know where to start. Well i started with google. And of course there were a lot of negative reviews on why you shouldn't feed your dog a plant-based diet. I did have reservations about it.. But after some more thought i continued my research.

Like i said i didn't know where to start. In my search i ended up at peta and peta gave me what i called a doggie grocery list. As a dog owner i educated myself on what fruits/foods were good for them and what could kill them. I sat down with my friend and we decided what we thought the dogs may or may not like and stuff we should add for extra nutrients.

I went to the grocery store and got almost everything on the list. Once i got home i decided what i wanted to throw into the slow cooker and let that baby cook for a few hours. I would have to make the dog food every other day. As i learned more about making my own dog food the better i felt about giving my dogs something i feel confident in..

Every time i would make my dog food i would change what i would put in it. Then i wanted to know how the dogs would like if i added fruit. I started adding fruit and they loved it. Now fresh is better but if you must then frozen (NO SUGAR) is okay to give.

Here is a list of some of the things i gave my dogs when i made their food

kale, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, hempseed, chickpeas, black beans, quinoa, celery, brown rice, coconut oil, flax seed and carrots. I know there are a lot more but you get the point. All the items i mentioned above came from Walmart and is 100% Organic.

Then i started thinking what if i started giving my dogs Vitamins. I had no idea that Dog vitamins even existed.

Well.. I hope you enjoyed today's blog? In the next blog i talk about Dog vitamins.

Until Next time.. Peace, Love and Lot's of Love
