My Harness story (Dog)

         

In today's blog i discuss how i got my dogs wearing a harness.

I really didn't start looking for harnesses until about a year ago. I seriously started looking when my Beabull's neck was getting infected from his collar. Okay it wasn't his collar and it was from all of his neck rolls and that caused irritation. 

So i needed to get one so his neck could rest. I didn't know the first thing about where to get a harness from. Obviously i looked on Amazon first and WOW they were expensive. I also looked at my local pet stores and there i saw TONS of different styles,colors, sizes and they all did different things. I'm thinking all i need is a harness that i could use when i need it.

I didn't even know what i needed it for? I talked to a friend and he said i needed it for when i walked my dog. I thought to myself.. Well duh.. I actually didn't even knew what i was going to use it for or if i was even going to use it.

After a few weeks of looking i ended up going to Walmart and getting a harness they had for like $8.99.. I got a medium size and as soon as i got home i put it on him and like a crazy doggie mom i couldn't stop taking like a million pictures.. 

A few weeks after i got my one dog a harness i got my other dog a harness. I had to  get him the L/XL size.. And i knew they both felt so free from their collars.. They did wear collars for a very long time.. Flash forward i got a new leash and the first time i took them for a walk with them wearing a harness it was great. 

I think i was afraid what if they got into a fight. (they use to fight.. Not anymore.) But a part of me still thinks a fight could happen at any moment. Anyway.. I made my dogs into harness dogs and they would wear their harnesses all day everyday 24/7 and this lasted for 2 weeks.. One night before bed i felt really bad that they had to wear them to sleep so i decided to take them off.. Then i really become more comfortable with them not wearing it as often only with the exception of going outside to do some potty business.. Or if we had company i would make them wear it.

Walking my big dog was a breeze.. I mean he never tugged but this harness just made it that more enjoyable. For my smaller dog i had to get a no tug leash so he wouldn't tug.. Then eventually my sister got them this leash attachment called the take two. And it's designed to walk 2 dogs at once. My sister got the medium/large one and it was $9.99 from my local pet store.

I put the harness on my dogs and used that leash attachment and for the first time ever i was able to walk both of my dogs at once. Yes my smaller dog tries to tug but he quickly realizes that he can't move his way bigger brother he usually stops tugging and he walks great.

Now my dogs only wear their harnesses if we are going for walks or if other people are around.

When i first started looking at harnesses i needed it i guess more for me to feel comfortable. But once i did feel comfortable they felt comfortable. I also didn't know what type of harness i needed. In the beginning i got the basic ones and now i'm looking to upgrade since the ones they have are falling apart. Hey they came from Walmart i didn't expect them to last long. 

My advice to you is when you are looking for a harness make sure you get a harness that will not only make you feel comfortable but your dog feel comfortable as well. And make sure you get one designed for your dogs needs.. There are many companies out there that rather take your money and give you shit product. I rather take my time and research companies and look at reviews and even see if the company is a scam before i even think about buying from them. 

You may also get some looks. I know i did when i walked my large dog with his harness. Nobody said anything but you can just tell they wanted to say something when they give you the stink eye. In my opinion i doesn't matter if you want to make your dog a harness dog or if you want to leave your dogs collar on 24/7.. It's your dog and do what you feel is right and what works for you is all that matters.
