Pictured here is my youngest on his Birthday! Lets say he was not amused that i took his picture while he was sunbathing.
Typically when one their birthdays one will get a bone that says happy birthday on it and the other will get a smaller but equally as tasty treat. This past may my Pitbull got a happy birthday bone and the other two dogs got a smaller treat. Oh.. I guess i forgot to mention that there is another female living in the house ( the four legged kind).
During that time i started to play with idea of putting the dogs on a plant based diet. I even looked up recipes for homemade dog treats, shampoos and toothpaste. When it was my youngest (Dog) birthday i decided i wanted to make something homemade and from the heart. Well everything i do for them comes straight from my heart.
After looking at tons of dogs birthday cakes i decided to come up with a PUPCAKE recipe of my own. I'm like i bake cupcakes from scratch i'm sure i could come up with a doggie friendly recipe.
Here is the recipe i finally came up with that all 3 doggie babies LOVE!
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups of flour ( i used bob red mill 100% stone ground organic whole wheat flour)
2 Egg room temp ( I used cage free vegetarian fed)
3 teaspoons of melted organic coconut oil
1 cup of water
1 can of organic pumpkin puree
1 cup of shredded organic carrots
1/2 cup of barley flakes
Directions: preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl or mixer and mix until well combined (about 3 minutes). Once combined pour mixture into a cake pan or 6 king size cupcake pan.. remember to grease whatever pan you use and bake for 18-25 minutes or until golden brown and when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
The top right and bottom right are the pup cakes right before the went into the oven and the Top left is when the pup cakes came right out of the oven. I put the pup cakes on a Happy Birthday plate!
let cool. To speed up the cooling process i popped the pupcakes in the freeze for 10 minutes.
Now for the pupcake frosting i didn't come up with this recipe i found it and i Just altered it to my doggies liking
Pup Cake Frosting Recipe:
4 Tablespoons of organic soy free, dairy free cream cheese ( i used tofutti)
1 teaspoon of raw organic honey
1/2 cup of Organic pumpkin puree
3 Tablespoons of homemade peanutbutter
Directions: Mix all the ingredients together. And then frost your Pup cakes
When all done you'll have pup cakes that your fur babies will sure be barking for more!
