Let me state that I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL. THESE ARE MY OWN EXPERIENCES. IF YOU DO THINK YOU HAVE A GLUTEN ALLERGY/INTOLERANCE YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR DOCTOR AND GET TESTED!!!!
If you think you may have a gluten intolerance and you saw your doctor but he or she thinks it may be IBS. Then you aren't alone. There is about 5% of americans walking around with Gluten sensitivity or intolerance and may not even know. 1% suffer from celiac and 7% suffer from NCGS (non celiac gluten sensitivity) that was a mouth full.
A Lot of doctors don't believe in NCGS. Doctors think it's somebody making up symptoms. DO i believe in NCGS? YES! I am a suffer of NCGS. Symptoms associated with NCGS are VERY similar to celiac. There is no REAL test to see if somebody is positive for NCGS. So when a person is going to the doctor the Dr. will automatically test for celiac. When that test comes back negative the suffer may feel frustrated. The Dr. may suggest going gluten free for a few weeks to see if that helps. If it does then after the few weeks the doctor wil suggest going gluten free.
Here is a little back story about me going gluten free. My sister and i had this issue when we were younger. And i'll be honest i don't remember much because i was a very young kid. I just remember what symptoms to look for if it were to happen again. Well one day it did. It wasn't that bad. I broke out it hives and i felt sick. But the more i ate gluten the more the symptoms came back. I knew that i had to see if it was gluten so i stopped eating it for 1 week and i felt 100% better. Then i ate something small with gluten in it and well here is a list of symptoms i experience.
1) Hives/Rashes
2) Migraine Headaches
3)Nausea
4)Stomach bloat/Pain
5)Constipation/Diarrhea.
Now these are some of the symptoms i experienced. Not everyone will experience the same symptoms. Everybody's body is different.
Now my next step was to go through all of my food in the house and see what had gluten in it. What was helpful was that i downloaded this app called ipiit i downloaded it through iTunes store it's free. So i took whatever food i was unsure about i scanned it with the app. And if it has any type of Gluten in it it will pop up not for you.
You can check no GMO, Lactose, Egg, wheat and many others. I realized that i didn't have much food left. So i felt like a broke college kid. I like had no food. So i had a few weeks to wait before i went grocery shopping so i had to buy food each day. Now i should warn you that going Gluten Free can be expensive. I know in 1 day i spent $30 just on a few items. Now i know it can be cheaper if i did my research. But i was a hungry girl and ain't nobody got time for that. I have't gone grocery shopping yet so i can't tell you how much i spent or where to go. But when i do i will let you all know.
The next thing is prepare to say good bye to your favorite foods. Most people love pizza and that's what they miss. For me i miss donuts. I mean i miss donuts like something fierce. Other than that i really don't miss much foods. Because now a days there is a substitute for most foods these days.
I know i didn't really go to in depth I'll do a video for you guys on gluten sensitivity/intolerance. And my next blog will be going gluten free grocery shopping.
Until next time
